Alex Sutton

2012 Tall Timbers District "Good Scout Recipient"

Alex Sutton serves as Co-President of The Woodlands Development Company. He holds Bachelor and Master's degrees in Civil Engineering from Rice University and a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Houston. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer and a Certified Public Accountant. His responsibilities span the executive functions of the company, with a primary focus on project development, commercial activities, and the company's hospitality interests. He joined The Woodlands in 1994.

Alex's involvement with the Boy Scouts of America began as a youth and continues through today. He started with Troop 64 in Keflavik, Iceland where his father was stationed at Keflavik Air Force Base, which was home to Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine contingents. Alex says that Troop 64 was assigned its Troop number because the City of Keflavik was very close to, if not right on the 64° Parallel North. Alex fondly remembers that the troop loaded up on an Air Transport plane and flew to summer camp in Germany. Alex began developing character and leadership skills in Scouting. Here he also learned many other skills and values that he continues to incorporate into his daily life. Alex earned his "God and Country" award, he was a "Brotherhood Member" of the Order of the Arrow, and he earned and was awarded the rank of "Eagle Scout".

Alex has actively supported various fund raising campaigns of the Tall Timbers District and the George Strake District since 2000. He always generously donates his time, efforts, and financial support to make each of these campaigns a success. The Scouting program helped to mold a strong set of values and ideals in Alex, that are evident still today in all of his citizenship and leadership efforts throughout the community and within his industry.

Alex's civic and industry involvement includes service as:

Alex is also an active member of The Woodlands United Methodist Church. He and his wife Sharon live in The Woodlands Town Center, and have five grandchildren four of whom also reside in The Woodlands.

Alex exemplifies the values, ideals, and leadership that scouting aims to instill in today's youth. It is therefore with the blessing and support of all scouts and scouters within the Tall Timbers District, that we honor and bestow the 2012 "Good Scout" award on Alex Sutton this 29th day of March, 2012.
